My experience with Abilene Medical Assistant has been a positive one. There has been much growth upon myself and my classmates as we have learned about the scope of practice within the medical assistant, successfully have drawn venipunctures and learn to take vitals within a timely matter. Sarah has been an excellent teacher to us all. She goes into detail about her teachings and ensures us that we are grasping the information. She has been a positive teacher and lets us know "it will all come together" I am grateful for this opportunity from this school and look forward to a fulfilling opportunity as a medical assistant who aspires to be a nurse in the mere future. The time it takes to become a Medical Assistant varies between schools and certification programs. Our curriculum is 18-weeks long and fully prepares students to start working as a medical assistant.

Abilene Medical Assistant School is a hands-on learning program. We take a different approach from traditional education. Our classes take place in a medical office rather than a classroom, with a hands-on component to every part of our course. Classes begin with a lecture and discussion, but most of the class time is spent in labs learning the essential techniques of medical assisting. When our students graduate and begin their career, they feel at home in a medical office.

As a newly hired Medical Assistant, your employer will expect you to know the basic skills of medical assisting. Those fundamental skills are exactly what we focus on teaching our students. Our custom-designed curriculum sets students up for success by covering precisely what doctors will expect them to know.

When you graduate from any medical assisting school you receive a certificate of completion. Many students ask if they can expect to make a higher starting salary if they attend a longer program. The starting salary for a Medical Assistant does not depend on how long you spent in school or how much you paid for your schooling.

Medical Assistants perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to assisting the doctor, carrying out clinical tasks, and completing administrative work.

Medical assistants may perform many different clinical duties including taking and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examination, and drawing blood. Administrative tasks are equally important in the medical assisting field; medical assistants are also in charge of scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, working with insurance files, and billing.

Assistants are responsible for making patients feel at ease while also preparing them for treatment. During medical visits, assistants often work alongside the doctor.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 12 percent from 2024 to 2034, much faster than the average for all occupations. For more information, please visit the Bureau of Labor Statistics website.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual wage for medical assistants was $44,200 as of May 2024. For more information, please visit the Bureau of Labor Statistics website.

Benefits vary by practice and should be discussed with the hiring practice.
